Taylor Swift Overtakes Rihanna as World’s Richest Female Musician
Music icon Taylor Swift has officially claimed the title of the richest female musician globally, surpassing Rihanna. According to Forbes, Swift’s net worth has soared to Rs. 13,280 crore (around $1.6 billion). The only musician with a higher net worth is Jay-Z, who stands at Rs. 20,750 crore (approximately $2.5 billion).
Swift’s Distinct Path to Wealth
In contrast to many celebrities who accumulate wealth through lucrative brand endorsements or diverse business investments, Swift has primarily amassed her fortune through her musical endeavors. The success of her Eras Tour, along with her extensive music catalog valued at around Rs. 4,980 crore (approximately $600 million), has significantly contributed to her financial status. She has also garnered nearly Rs. 4,980 crore from royalties and concert tours. Furthermore, Swift possesses approximately Rs. 1,040 crore (about $125 million) in real estate assets.
Groundbreaking Eras Tour
A major contributor to Swift’s financial achievements is her Eras Tour, which has grossed over Rs. 16,600 crore (approximately $2 billion) across 125 concerts. This monumental tour has set records as the highest-grossing tour of all time, averaging around Rs. 132 crore (approximately $16 million) per performance. Additionally, her 2023 tour film generated a further Rs. 2,160 crore (around $261 million), marking it as a significant box-office success.
In 2021, Swift initiated the process of re-recording her initial six albums to secure ownership of her master recordings. By releasing “Taylor’s Version” of her previous works, she has regained control over her music rights and the associated profits. This move has been met with overwhelming support from her fanbase, and the re-recorded albums have enjoyed impressive chart success.
Rihanna: A Close Rival
Prior to Swift’s rise to the top, Rihanna held the title of the richest female musician, with her net worth estimated at around Rs. 11,620 crore (approximately $1.4 billion). The majority of Rihanna’s wealth stems from her thriving enterprises, including Fenty Beauty and Savage X Fenty, rather than solely her music career. Although she has not released a new album since 2016, her successful ventures in cosmetics and fashion continue to keep her among the elite in terms of wealth.
