iFixit Sells Tool for Easy iPhone 16 Battery Removal
Apple has taken significant strides towards enhancing the repairability of its devices with the introduction of the iPhone 16. A standout feature is a novel technique that utilizes a low-voltage electric current, simplifying the process of detaching the battery. In response to this, iFixit has unveiled a specially designed tool aimed at aiding individuals in safely removing the integrated battery of the iPhone 16.
VoltClip: An Innovative Way to Remove the iPhone 16 Battery
The new VoltClip tool from iFixit operates through USB power, delivering between 9-12V to help users separate the battery from their iPhone 16. The device features a USB-C adapter for power connection, along with alligator clips to facilitate attachment to the device.
According to a report from The Verge, Apple’s repair guidelines mention that utilizing up to 30V can lead to quicker battery removal. However, iFixit opted to keep its VoltClip simple and economically viable. This accessory certainly proves easier to use compared to traditional connectors or single-use batteries.
In earlier iPhone models, manufacturers used stretch-release adhesives to secure the battery within the device. While effective, this method complicated repairs and extended the removal process. Thanks to the new electric current approach, the battery can be detached safely and efficiently in roughly one minute.
It’s important to note that this innovative battery removal technique is exclusive to the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus; the Pro and Pro Max versions continue to implement the older adhesive method for battery installation.
If you’re considering repairing your own iPhone or are involved in the repair business, the iFixit VoltClip is available for purchase at $10.95. Just keep in mind that it requires a USB-C PD power source (not included) that can provide 12V or 9V output.
